About

Children who miss lessons over head lice cannot finish the course. This cartoon tells 8-year-olds what lice are and how to get rid of them, so a check at the pool gate is a short stop.

What it teaches, from the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics guidance:
· A louse is about the size of a sesame seed. It crawls; it cannot hop or fly. It moves head to head.
· Lice do not care if you are clean or messy. Dogs do not get our lice.
· Nits are glued on close to the skin. Sand and flakes blow away; nits stay stuck.
· Four steps: good light, make rows, look close to the skin, check behind the ears and the back of the neck.
· Found one? Tell a grown-up. Use the shampoo the way the box says, comb every few days, wash again when the box says.
· Everyone at home gets checked.

The CDC finds lice unlikely to spread in swimming pools. The AAP advises that a child with lice need not miss school.
